Instructions
Turn any landscape photo into a stunning vector-style artwork using simple shapes and clean lines! Follow these easy steps using your favorite digital art platform like Procreate, or use DIYvinci’s Designette for a faster workflow with pre-made shapes, not only saves time but also helps beginners focus more on composition and color without getting stuck on drawing details from scratch.
Step 1: Choose Your Landscape Reference
Pick a clear and vibrant photo of a landscape you’d like to recreate. Mountains, beaches, fields — anything with depth and variation works great.
Step 2: Set Up Your Canvas
Open your digital art app or DIYvinci’s Designette and create a new canvas. A landscape orientation (e.g., 3000x2000 px) works well.
Step 3: Block Out Basic Shapes
Start by sketching or placing simple geometric and abstract shapes. Focus on large shapes first to define the layout.
If you're using Designette, you can drag and drop pre-made shapes directly onto your canvas to speed things up.
Step 4: Add Color Layers
Fill in each shape with flat, bold colors. Can use gradient for shading.
Vector art thrives on simplicity and contrast.
Step 5: Add Details & Overlays
Now refine your shapes and add layers of midground and foreground details using more shapes for clouds, paths, water, etc. Keep everything clean and sharp.
Step 6: Adjust Colors for Depth
Use color variation (lighter for distant objects, darker for closer ones) to create a sense of depth and atmosphere.
Step 7: Final Touches
Tweak composition, refine edges, and add gradients to enhance your style — while keeping the clean vector look.
Your painting is ready!
